As an avid people watcher I love it when I find other people are doing it too, means I am not the only strange person out there
Being 'unemployed' I have plenty of time for this strange hobby of mine and lately it has become one of the focal points of my day, I find new things to look for, new things to notice. A couple of the things I have tackled this week are 'oap's' and footwear.
My friend Kevin mentioned in passing on here http://eagle-eye.blog.co.uk about the way that people walk, I went a step further (pardon the pun) and looked at what they wear to walk in.
Now I am a shoe person, I have more pairs of shoes than I have clothes, I love shoes, footwear, boots, whatever you place on your feet. I have a particular taste in shoes, and I know exactly what I like and dont like, what looks good and what looks downright stupid. This seems to be something that is lost on many people and I wonder if they wear what they wear simply for comfort? Large plump legs tied up in ribbon is a no no, you want something that slims them down, evens them out and makes them look good, why one earth would you wear wedges with ribbons that go half way up your legs and make it look as though they are cutting off your circulation? Thin legs with fat clumpy shoes, another no no, they make it look as though your legs are going to snap any minute and you are definately having problems in lifting them up? But these are just normal standard no no's, that quite a few disregard, possibly in the name of comfort, possibly because they have a slightly different idea of what looks good than others do, after all we are all different and while I may think these things others might think they are fine?
Now OAP's and shoes, they fascinate me, in fact OAP's and the way that they dress altogether fascinates me
It seems that the older you get, the more bizarre you get, what happened to being able to dress with decorum?
I have several categories for OAP's, we have the ones that still think they are 30 or 40 and dress accordingly right down to the make-up.
We have the ones that think old means gaudy, you need your sunglasses for those ones.
We have the 'tweed' brigade
And we have the ones that just throw on whatever they can find and don't even bother looking in the mirror before coming out (saying that we have lots of age groups in that category
)
Collecting my hard earned (that pen weighs a lot and it is quite a walk to the job centre!)unemployment on a monday gives me lots of scope for OAP watching as this is also pension day. There is one particular lady that fascinates me more than the rest, she has three modes of dress, one she is attending an Ascot Race meeting on ladies day, two she is attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace and three she is lunching with the ladies of the Womens institute. All three styles require pretty dresses that she probably carried off beautifully thirty years or so ago,make up she has put on with a trowel and high heels that she appears to have forgotten how to walk in. She walks (hobbles) sedately (as near as possible while hobbling) past the queue in clouds of perfume, and I mean clouds, you can almost see it let alone taste it! to pick up a leaflet and then walks (hobbles) back to the end of the queue, looking at everyone down the nose and making sure that she touches no one and they do not touch her. Fascinating!! One day I am going to speak to her, because I would love to learn her history.
We have the little old lady in the raincoat (no matter what the weather) with the open toed shoes and seamed toed stockings, we have the gentleman that thinks sandals and black socks go with his suit, we have the couple that wear khaki shorts and hiking boots, with brown shirts and thick socks (all the time it seems) the lady that always wears a tweed suit and flat sensible shoes her husband that always wears a light tan jacket and green flecked trousers, with brown shoes. And a myriad of other weird and wonderful outfits that are far too many to go into in one blog post
So as you can see, people watching is keeping me fairly busy, well that and Mother, who is ill at the moment and apparently needs me to run up to hers and back into town every single day to do something or other, never mind, she will soon be moving in with my sister while the council redo her kitchen and bathroom
Hope everyone is having a great day
