So we are sat there, in the 'shed' some work um colleagues, and I, just having a little chat during the evening lunch break.

The chat somehow turned to how we see ourselves and how we think people see us. For a few minutes the words ran through my head, would be poet/Author, mother, friend, lover (actually scrap that one) friend, then I stopped and looked at them, one of the girls said "I see you as this strong person, sometimes quite aloof, but also approachable with some things, though we know very little about you even though you have been here so long"

So I asked her why she would want to place labels on people, including herself, she insisted that she wasn't doing that, but yes you are, I countered, I am just me, and even though others might look at me and think that they know I am this or that, the fact is they dont know they are just trying to place me in a category they can understand.

Unfortunately the conversation floundered somewhat there as the concept went over her head!

We all do it of course, place things and people in to categories, even when we dont think we are, it is a human failing, that we have to be able to understand things, so we turn them into things that can be understood.

OK, food time, this late shifts are a killer ;)
